Mrs. Smolinski, Technology and Grant Coordinator
Mrs. Smolinski has taught in the Catholic Schools for over 25 years. In addition to her time spent in Catholics elementary schools, she spent 5 years at Girls and Boys Town. While at Girls and Boys Town, she was in charge of the computer lab in the High School and maintaining the Title I computers in the homes and Career Center. Since coming to Holy Name 16 years ago, she has taught technology classes for Kindergarten through Eighth Grades.
For the past 4 years, she has been teaching World Culture classes. These classes aim at sharing cultures from around the world with the students. In 2013 World Culture became the WOW program. This program, developed exclusively for Holy Name, integrates instruction in world culture with developmental and Discipline with Purpose skills.
In addition, she has written many grants for the school. These grants funded many projects in the technology area and in the other curricular subjects. (See the grants section for more information.) She also coordinated a grant for 8 of the inner-city schools through the Federal ERate program earning the schools over $1 million dollars in funding.
She loves spending time with the students outside of her classes and works with the student council, stage and sound crews for musical performances and helps with the "Haunted Tunnel" (an annual 8th grade Halloween event,)
Her philosophy in teaching technology to the students is based on total integration. She believes technology is a tool for learning and should not be taught as a stand-alone subject. All work in the technology lab is geared towards developing skills needed to be successful in learning and in life after formal schooling.
In 2007, she was named Inner-City and Special Needs Teacher of the Year. She is a member of NETA (Nebraska Educational Technology Association), ISTE (International Society for Technology Education) and OPUG (Omaha Private Schools User Group.)
In her spare time she enjoys baking, building dollhouses and miniatures and spending time with her 2 children and 5 grandchildren.
